ERIC SAPAEV MARI STATE Opera and Ballet Theatre opens 53rd Season

After a long break, the opening of a new theatrical season took place at ERIC SAPAEV MARI STATE Opera and Ballet Theatre, within the VIII festival in honor of Galina Ulanova.

The premiere of B. Asafyev's The Fountain of Bakhchisarai took place at this theater on September 15, 2020. The "Bakhchisarai Fountain" was first staged at the Kirov Opera and Ballet Theatre on September 28, 1934. Great ballerina Galina Ulanova took part in the first performance of "Bakhchisarai Fountain". Nikolai Volkov's libretto was written based on the poem of the same name by Alexander Pushkin.

On September 16, the audience will see the ballet "Swan Lake" by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, which was first performed at the Bolshoi Theater on February 20, 1877. The ballet is a success in Russia and abroad. The variety of rose with white petals 'Schwanensee', bred in 1968, is named after the ballet.
